Reception 2019-20

Welcome back! We hope you have had a lovely break and are ready for the Autumn term.

The teacher in Reception is Mrs Silvera. The teaching assistants are Mrs Niaz and Mrs Green.

Autumn 1 Learning

We have been looking at the animal kingdom. We have enjoyed reading the stories such as: Elmer, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and Rumble in the Jungle. We have also been learning about the changes that happen when our Summer season changes to Autumn.

Autumn 2 Learning

Next half term we will be looking at celebrations such as Bonfire night, Diwali, Christmas and Weddings.

Spring 1 Learning

We are learning about different authors such as Julia Donaldson. We have done lots of different activities around these stories to help improve our cutting skills and fine motor skills. We have been doing number formation and number recognition of numbers from 1-20. We have also been learning how to write our full names and producing lovely pieces of writing.

Spring 2 Learning

In Spring 2 we will be learning all about how things grow. We will be experimenting by growing our own seeds into plants and we will have the experience of watching eggs hatch into chicks. We will keep a diary of what happens through each process. In mathematics we will be looking at capacity and measures.

In P.E we will be using the apparatus.

Children will be given homework on Thursdays.  Please help your child to complete their homework and ensure it is returned by Tuesdays.

Reading Books

Reading books and records will go home every day. Please bring them back into school every day, so they can be listened to by an adult. It is important that the children read as much as possible (with an adult) at home, in order to maximise their potential. Please comment in their reading record whenever you read with them. Books will be changed once a week (no set day).

Spare Clothes

Please ensure that your child has a set of spare clothes (named) with them in case of any accidents, including getting wet outside in the water.

Children have milk and fruit available free of charge and we have additional snack at a cost of £1 week.  This includes foods like, toast, biscuits, crackers and cheese etc.  Please hand in your money to Mrs Silvera at the start of each week.

We have P.E. on Mondays. Children will need a plain white t-shirt, black shorts and black pumps in a bag. Please ensure these are all clearly named.

We use Dojo points in school to reward positive behavior. You can see the points your child has been awarded. Please sign up and stay in touch.

This half term we are learning about Authors, such as, Julia Donaldson, Martin Waddell, David McKee and Jill Murphy. In Maths we will be practising our number and counting skills.  We will also be learning about shape and space.
