Geography wc 1st March 

Aerial photographs 

Go through the power point together.  Explain what an aerial photograph is and how it is different to other photographs. 

Task- on the aerial photographs find the following: river, bridge, buildings, sea, coast, forest and hill. 

Challenge- I have also attached a photo pack to look at. Do you know where the photographs are taken? Can you describe them? Can you compare them?  What features can you spot?

You will need access to a globe, an atlas or a map for this task. This can be digital. I have attached a power point for you to work through with your child. 

Learn the names of the continents.  Describe where they are in relation to the equator.  (North/South/East/West). 

Task- Locate and name the seven continents of the world. 

Challenge- identify the five oceans.  



Mini project about your family.

I have attached lots of different resources to help you.  You don’t have to do all of them, choose what works best for you and feel free to present in your own way.

The key learning for the children is to:

  1. Use a timeline to place the family in a historical context.
  2. Use a family tree to show the past in child’s context, parents and grandparents.
  3. Ask how is my life different to when my parents were children?
  4. Ask how is my life different to when my grandparents were children?

Encourage them to ask questions and find out the answers together.  Use photographs, books, video clips and the internet to find out what life was like in different decades.  Encourage them to talk about the similarities and differences. 

You could make a scrapbook/album of your child’s work.

Challenge- consider different sources of evidence and different points of view.  What does a photograph tell you? What does it not tell you?  What might other people's experiences of the same event been? Encourage your child to think of other people's points of view.  eg take an event that you were present at, talk about it, would everyone have experienced the same and felt the same? 

I know this topic can be a sensitive matter, so if you feel you need specific support in talking about loved ones that have died, please get in touch and I can suggest some ideas to help.

Week beginning 8th February 2021

Safer Internet Week

In school this week we are learning about internet safety which is more important than ever right now with children accessing technology and the internet more than they usually would.


  1. A video aimed at 5-7 year olds, explaining that they might not be talking to who they think they are talking to on video games.


  1. Create a digital footprint. Draw around your foot or your shoe. Then talk to your adult about all of the things you do online. For instance, play video games, watch YouTube videos, go on social apps such as TikTok. When we visit/post on places such as this online we leave behind a trace. This is called a digital footprint because whatever you do online can be traced back to you, even if you delete it!
    Inside your footprint (I have also attached one below if you would prefer to print one off), you can write, draw and colour all of the things you get up to online. I have attached an example of a completed footprint below to show you some that other children have completed.

      3. All of the children have their own account for where there are lots of games and activities for them to browse at their leisure. Prior to us working at home, the children were
           given their log in details which they were instructed to stick on the cover of their homework books. If you cannot locate yours then please contact your teacher who will be able to provide it to you. Once you log
           in, an online safety quiz and some other challenges have already been assigned to you. Once you complete this you will then be able to submit it virtually to your teacher. Feel free to have a play around on the
           other games and activities too. We look forward to viewing your work  :)

This will take longer than an hours lesson.  You could spread it over 3 sessions.

Geography wc 8th February

The children have covered this in Year 1 but it's good to recap.  Focus on the relation to where places are, linking knowledege of compass directions from last week. 

Recall that we live in Dukinfield in Manchester.

Know that Manchester is in England and be able to locate England on an Atlas

Learn that London is the capital of England.

Use knowledge of compasses to know that London is in the South and Manchester is in the North of England.

Use an Atlas to learn that Scotland is North of England and its capital is Edinburgh.

Learn that Wales is to the West of England and its capital is Cardiff.

Learn that to the West of England and Wales and over the Irish Sea is Northern Ireland and its capital is Belfast

Children's Mental Health Week 1st February 

Have a look at  for lots or resources and ideas you can do at home. The theme is 'Express Yourself'. 

How can you express yourself? (clothes, hair, make up, music, dancing, cooking, exercise, singing, drawing, writing) 


*What can you make/create that represents you? 

*Put some music on and just dance! No rules, just dance! :-)

Art 1st February 

Choose a scene from the book 'The Lion Inside' and draw/paint a picture.  You could also use the scenes from The Lion King to draw/paint a picture.  

Think of colour choices.  Can you mix some colours? Use thin/thick brushes/pencils.  Use shading to create effects. 


Science 4th February

Sort the animals from page 2 into the Venn diagram depending on whether they are...

Carnivores - Animals that eat meat (A good way to remember is 'carni' sound like chilli con carne which is made of meat!)

Herbivores - Animals that eat plants, nuts and seed (A good way to remember this is 'herb' is like herbs which are plants!)

Omnivores - Animals that eat both meat and plants, nuts and seed. (A good way to remember is omnivores are greedy and like to eat both meat and plants om NOM OM!)

David Livingstone

This week we are looking at timelines.  

Use the sequencing cards and/or the information you found out last week about David Livingstone to put key dates in order on a timeline.  You can use the format provided (there are two different ones, one with fewer boxes and one with more boxes) or draw your own.  Just draw a straight line and add the dates and a brief description about what happened at that time.
