Geography

At Lyndhurst Community Primary School, we recognise our school context and have designed our Geography curriculum with the intent that pupils build the secure foundations required to become successful and aspirational Geographers.

The school vision ‘Support, Challenge, Inspire’ is interwoven within our Geography curriculum intent and design. The breadth of our curriculum is designed with three goals in mind:

Support

We support pupils to develop the confidence to question and observe places, measure and record necessary data in various ways, and analyse and present their findings. We ensure they have a sound understanding of geographical concepts, terms and vocabulary ensuring they have the appropriate scaffolding to allow them to attain to the best of their ability.

Challenge

We challenge our children to become critical thinkers and to ask perceptive questions; explain and analyse evidence whilst developing their fieldwork skills across the school

Inspire

Our  scheme of work aims to inspire pupils to become curious and explorative thinkers with a diverse knowledge of the world; in other words, to think like a geographer. Through our scheme of work, we aim to build an awareness of how Geography shapes our lives at multiple scales and over time. We hope to encourage pupils to become resourceful, active citizens who will have the skills to contribute to and improve the world around them.
